A Practice Permit:
Legally authorizes a registrant to practice in Alberta and use the title "Registered Psychiatric Nurse" or initials "RPN".
A Practice Permit with conditions:

A Provisional Practice Permit has the following restrictions:
- Not to be in charge of a unit or work alone on a night shift.
- May use the title "Psychiatric Nurse" or initial "PN".
- May practice only while supervised in a manner satisfactory to the Registrar or Registration Committee.
Supervision is direct, indirect or remote as defined below:
Direct supervision: a regulated nurse is present in the practice setting at the point of care. This means that the regulated member is providing supervision ‘at the side of’ the person providing the care.
Indirect supervision: a regulated nurse is available for guidance and consultation but is not directly at the side of the person providing the care.
Remote supervision: a regulated nurse is available for consultation and guidance but is not physically present in the location where the care is being provided and is able to be easily contacted through the use of technology (such as by phone).
